The Architects Golf Club Announces Phase Two Bunker Restoration Project

The Second Phase Began in September and is Nearing Completion

LOPATCONG, NEW JERSEY – December 20, 2021 - The Architects Golf Club, one of New Jersey’s premier public golf courses, is pleased to announce ongoing phase two construction of its bunker restoration project. The project began in the summer of 2017 with the goal of restoring all of the bunkers and sand traps across the entire 18-hole golf course. The course has and will remain one hundred percent open while the renovations are ongoing. Play will not be impacted.

Like the first construction phase, parent company Turco Golf Inc. of Suffern, NY and Pompton Lakes, NJ is completing the work. Turco Golf is owned and operated by brothers Larry and Dennis Turco, who are also the co-owners and operators of The Architects Golf Club. Established during the golf course construction boom of the 1990s and early 2000s, Turco Golf is led by company president and expert golf course shaper, Dennis Turco. In 2001, Turco built The Architects Golf Club from the ground up. Since then, Turco Golf has amassed an impressive portfolio that includes some of the finest and most reputable golf courses in the New York, New Jersey & Connecticut tri-state area.

The Turco brothers decided to restore Architects’ bunkers to their original form to alleviate drainage issues in the traps that have disrupted play after substantial rainfalls. More than twenty years have passed since the original bunkers were constructed. During this time, new technology has emerged resulting in superior products for improved bunker drainage. We selected Capillary Concrete™ bunker liner for the project because it’s been tested on thousands of bunkers around the world, many of which belong to golf’s top 100 courses. Our new bunkers have 100% moisture and drainage control to keep them in perfect shape during any weather condition. We’re proud to announce that phase two of the project is nearing completion.

The course is one hundred percent open while construction continues. For golfers, this means the bunkers under construction will be considered to be ground under repair, and applicable rules will apply to the hazards. Regular play will be undisturbed. We feel that the benefits of the renovation are well worth the inconvenience they may cause, which we expect will be minor. The long-term benefit of rebuilding the bunkers to their original form will be a huge boost to the course’s playability, durability and most importantly quality, which we expect to come to the delight of our many golfers for years to come.
